CA approval solidifies Pascual’s dedication to DTI

Alfredo Pascual, secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), stated that his confirmation by the Commission on Appointments (CA) has solidified his determination to serve and implement important changes inside the organization to support the country’s economic progress.

In a media roundtable on Thursday, Pascual stated that the confirmation of his appointment as DTI director has given him a new opportunity to realize the goals he set for himself while serving as the agency’s head.

When he took office last year, Pascual listed the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), promotion of the manufacturing industry, facilitation of the ease of doing business, the attraction of investments, expansion of export markets, and restructuring of the organization as among his priority programs as DTI secretary.

When he wasn’t yet certain that he would be confirmed, he admitted, “I’m anxious (about) talking to individuals and making long-term pledges about working together, about cooperation, about moving forward.”

According to Pascual, the CA Secretariat received close to 60 recommendations for his appointment as the head of the DTI from domestic and some international organizations.

“It’s heartening that these recommendations were givenโ€ฆ Because I haven’t asked anyone for their endorsement,” he continued.

After ignoring Pascual’s appointment twice in the previous year, the CA reaffirmed his appointment on Wednesday.

Over the past forty years, Pascual has worked in both the academic and corporate sectors.

He served as the Management Association of the Philippines’ president before to entering the DTI.

Additionally, he served as the University of the Philippines’ co-chair and former president.

At the Asian Development Bank, Asian Institute of Management, Philippine Institute of Development Studies, International Rice Research Institute, Institute for Solidarity in Asia, and Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Pascual also held leadership roles and served on boards.
