The return of international cruise ships boosts tourism in Eastern Visayas
The Department of Tourism (DOT) stated on Thursday that the return of cruise ships to Eastern Visayas after nearly three years of pandemic restrictions is a significant boost to the local tourism industry.
The 228 passengers on board Silversea’s Silver Shadow, according to DOT Eastern Visayas Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes, had a “paradise-feel” experience thanks to the tour operator of a local event organizer.
In a phone conversation, Tiopes stated, “The DOT regional office is really delighted to report that our local service providers and their respective team managed to give above-par experience.”
“The scope of the cruise line’s requirements translated into chances for several tourism service providers to profit. In addition, I provided them the opportunity to deal with a foreign client that had high expectations for service standards. Several of them learned new things as a result of their interaction, she continued.
The positive experience would encourage visitors from many nations to post pictures of Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte, on social media.
“In addition to increasing foreign visitors’ awareness of our location, it also sparks internal tourism. It sparks curiosity among domestic travelers and has a beneficial effect locally, according to Tiopes, who spoke to the Philippine News Agency.
On February 10, only cruise passengers visited Kalanggaman Island to take advantage of its stunning coastlines and kind locals.
The first of four ports of call for the cruise ship in the Philippines was the lovely shores of Kalanggaman Island in Palompon town in Leyte, where the 228 American and European visitors were traveling from Papua New Guinea.
According to Tiopes, regional artists and traditional dancers from Palompon Town entertained the visitors on the island as they savored scrumptious appetizers and dinner prepared by regional cooks.
According to Tiopes, guests were also provided with body massages, the majority of whom said it was one of the nicest they had in a long time.
Of the four places the ship will stop in the nation, Kalanggaman Island is the first. It lingered on the island that day from 1:30 pm to 11 pm. Prior to arriving in Hong Kong, it also stopped at Manila, Romblon Island, and Bohol Island.
Swan Hellenic Cruises, the second cruise ship to visit the area this year, will dock on May 5 with 152 passengers and 120 crew members after calling at Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte on May 2. On May 5, the same ship will also dock at Capul Island in Northern Samar.
From November 1 to November 13, the third cruise ship operated by Cora Explorer will be in Eastern Visayas. Its 48 crew members and 120 passengers will travel to Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte province, the Maripipi and Sambawan Islands in Biliran, the Cuatro Islands, Babatngon, Tacloban City, and Kalanggaman Island in Leyte, and the Biri and Capul Islands in Northern Samar.
