Marcos: The government is “fortunate” to have Jose Acuzar as its housing minister
According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the national government is “fortunate” to have Jose “Jerry” Acuzar as the secretary of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
During the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Cebu City South Coastal Urban Development Housing Project, which is being carried out under the government’s Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program, Marcos made this remark (4PH).
In his speech, Marcos praised Acuzar for being willing to go above and beyond to ensure the success of the 4PH, which is similar to the holistic housing program of the President’s mother, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, when she was then minister of human settlements, known as BLISS (Bagong Lipunan Improvement of Sites and Services).
“Isa na sanay na developer dito sa ating Secretary, mabuti na lang at nakahanap tayo. All of his programs have been relatively effective based on their private negotiations. At dinadala niya hanggang dito ‘yan (Fortunately, our Secretary turned out to be a really talented coder. He has brought his successful programs from his private company’s private sector to the government, he claimed.
Marcos related how Acuzar had loaned his own heavy machinery to the government of the country to use on one of its projects.
Alright, I’ll say it now: ‘Eto lang ang nakita kong Secretary na pag kulang yung heavy equipment dadalhin niya yung sarili niya, ipapagamit sa’min. Totoo ‘yan, ako nabibiro na ako. He is the only Secretary who will bring his heavy equipment for government use if we are short on these, as you may know. I’m not lying; it is true. It has occurred on numerous occasions),” he stated.
“That’s why we’re happy to have someone who is assisting us so good, so motivated to make our program effective,” he continued. “Kaya mapalad tayo na mayroon tayo na tumutulong sa’tin na ganyan kahusay, ganyan kadesidido na maging matagumpay yung programa natin.” Among the representatives present at the ceremony was Acuzar, who worked on a number of the nation’s infrastructure projects.
The Philippine Arena in Bulacan, the largest indoor arena in the world, was developed by New San Jose Builders, Inc. (NSJBI), of which he is the chairman.
The heritage village Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is owned by Acuzar, who was born in the Bataan province’s Balanga town.
Affordable, suitable housing
When in office, Marcos voiced confidence in his administration’s ability to meet its objective of constructing about 1 million housing units annually.
“With the cooperation of the dedicated DHSUD personnel, led by Secretary Jerry Acuzar, I believe we can do this within my term,” he added. “Sa tulong ng mga masisipag na kawani ng DHSUD, na pinangungunahan ni Secretary Jerry Acuzar, naniniwala akong kayang-kaya natin itong makamit sa ilalim ng
According to him, the homes being built for the poor will also be affordable, disaster-resistant, and located close to their places of employment, as well as schools, healthcare facilities, and other enterprises.
Marcos also expressed his gratitude to the Cebu City local government and other relevant government organizations for their unwavering support of the housing project.
In order to support the community, he claimed that the government would also erect additional infrastructures such as schools, marketplaces, health facilities, and other commercial buildings.
In a media interview, Marcos stated that the government would expedite home building in the upcoming years if his administration were unable to complete the construction of 1 million housing units by the end of this year.
If this year’s goal cannot be met, “we will fast-track development for next year so that we will still get an average of 1 million a year,” he said.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, once finished, recipients in Cebu City will receive over 30,000 housing units (PCO).
Over 8,000 informal settler families (ISFs) and low-income earners in the city are anticipated to profit from the project’s initial phase, which consists of 10- and 20-story buildings on the 25-hectare construction site.
The complete South Coastal Urban Development Project consists of three stages that span a total of 60 hectares and are located in various parts of Cebu City.
According to government statistics, there are 6.5 million unfinished housing units in the Philippines.
For his part, House Speaker Martin Romualdez reaffirmed that the President’s housing program has adequate finance.
Romualdez attended the groundbreaking ceremonies alongside other Cebu municipal politicians such as Mayor Mike Rama and Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
