Agri party-list supports legislation to make Kadiwa outlets official

A party-list organization has introduced legislation in support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s proposal to build permanent Kadiwa locations all throughout the nation.

According to AGRI Partylist Rep. Wilbert Lee, expanding the Kadiwa program would be a practical and quick response to a food crisis while also removing the need for farmers and fishermen to contact dishonest intermediaries.

“Supported by us is the proposal to permanently change the Kadiwa (We support the plan to make Kadiwa stores permanent). In fact, because it offers a win-win situation for everyone involved, we have been advocating for the institutionalization of the program and have even filed a bill in this direction. Everyone is a winner in this situation: winner ang magsasaka, winner ang mamimili, and you “Lee stated in a statement on Sunday.

In an interview on March 8, Marcos declared his intention to open more Kadiwa locations.

Hence, the Kadiwa program will just keep running even though we are now thinking about evolving it. We will have permanent Kadiwa centers in several LGUs instead of so-called pop-up centers (local government units). We are researching the potential locations, added Marcos.

In order to support the President’s proposal, Lee encouraged Congress to approve House Bill No. 3957, also known as the Kadiwa Agri-Food Terminal bill.

Via an initial PHP25 billion investment for the Department of Agriculture to set up and administer Kadiwa terminals in every LGU, the bill aims to institutionalize the program.

“It would assist to make the price of food more consistent and affordable owing to direct access between producers and consumers,” he said.

He asked LGUs to begin working with relevant national agencies as soon as possible to operationalize the President’s agenda.

“I’m hoping we can implement this strategy as soon as feasible. There is a chance for the national government, Congress, and our LGUs to cooperate in order to improve the situation of the people, he said.

“Our cooperation will be essential to make this work; hence, it should be promptly discussed how it will be done (so that it can be done),” “Added he.
