On Wednesday, Senator Imee Marcos stressed the requirement for updating the rules that permit the government to conduct automated elections, which occasionally lead to controversies and “make the electoral environment unnecessarily contentious and inconsistent.”

She convened the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and declared that she had introduced Senate Bill No. (SBN) 179, which aims to strengthen the Philippines’ Omnibus Election Law (OEC) and update the nation’s electoral process.

Future elections will be more transparent, fair, honest, and credible, according to her, if the election laws are revised and re-coded.

The OEC’s rules and restrictions have now been shown to be insufficient to realistically provide a level playing field for applicants. The OEC has some clauses that are blatantly inappropriate for the present, according to Marcos’ explanation.

The congressman stated that the OEC, which is almost three decades old, needs to change to keep up with technological changes.

It continued, “Therefore, it is obvious that a comprehensive overhaul of election statutes is long overdue, as is the need to re-codify the currently dispersed election statutes and combine them into one coherent, unified, and comprehensive law.

The committee talked about getting ready for the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, which are planned for this October.

Marcos also gave it the job of establishing a technical working group to examine the OEC, SBN 179, and the many suggested measures that were forwarded to the committee in greater detail.
