Dedicated to eradicating peace-saboteurs is the security sector: DND chief

Carlito G. Galvez Jr., the director of the Department of National Defense (DND), reaffirmed the security industry’s dedication to getting rid of “peace spoilers” from society.

On Wednesday, Galvez made the statement during the National Task Force for the Disbandment of Private Armed Groups’ (NTF-DPAGS) 11th oversight committee meeting.

“Senior Undersecretary Galvez emphasized that the recent wave of violence against local chief executives brought the subject of private armed organizations in the nation to the forefront. He gave the populace assurances that the DND, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the PNP (Philippine National Police), and all NTF-DPAG member agencies would continue to uphold their commitment to eradicating peace spoilers so that people could live without fear of or exposure to violence “In a statement released on Friday, DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said.

Galvez promised that the security sector will work tirelessly to complete all duties required to reach this objective and guarantee the security of the Bangsamoro region, particularly its 63 distinct geographic zones.

Earlier, the DND and the AFP were instructed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to step up their support and collaboration in the disarmament of private armed organizations in the Bangsamoro region and other troubled areas around the nation.

“The direction of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to dismantle private armies and locate hotspots where local authorities are being assaulted has made it more necessary than ever for us to carry out our mandate, according to vice chairwoman of the task force Galvez.

“We are optimistic that the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro would help create peaceful, violent-free communities as a result of our efforts and pledges thereto.

Benjamin Abalos Jr., the head of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and chair of the NTF-DPAGs, praised the task force for its prompt response to reports of lawlessness in the Visayas and Mindanao.

“Be assured that the DILG stands ready to provide all required support for the achievement of our noble goal as we work to rid the Philippines of its long-standing gun culture. As we work to provide our kababayans with the peaceful and prosperous communities they deserve, let’s keep cooperating in bringing down the walls of division and partisan politics.

Secretary Isidro Purisima, acting presidential adviser on peace, reconciliation, and unity, reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering dedication to fostering the conditions necessary for just and long-lasting peace in Bangsamoro.

The jointness, synergy, and mutual trust that has been built between the government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front will be preserved and reinforced, Purisima vowed.
