AUKUS to cooperate freely with the IAEA on the submarine agreement, Australia to PH

On Friday, the Australian Embassy informed the Philippines that AUKUS will implement the multi-year submarine contract in a transparent manner.

AUKUS previously announced a submarine project in which Canberra will start buying nuclear-powered, conventionally-armed submarines in the early 2030s.

The embassy gave the assurance that AUKUS would work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and make sure that its operations were in line with global efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.

It stated in a text message, “We welcome the views of the Philippine government, particularly the statement from the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs).

The AUKUS partners will continue to cooperate freely and transparently with the IAEA. Australia will always seek to shape our area together with our allies in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

Both Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Defense Minister Richard Marles had spoken to their Philippine counterparts via phone before the submarine agreement announcement, the embassy said.

“Australia communicates with Philippine officials on a variety of regional security matters on a regular basis. Australian officials traveled from Canberra to Manila to update their Philippine counterparts on the recent AUKUS announcement, and the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Defense and the Chief of the Australian Defense Force also telephoned their counterparts “It read.

The DFA, on behalf of the Filipino government, took note of the three nations’ nuclear submarine initiative on Thursday.

It stated that agreements like AUKUS must strengthen the international system of rules that supports regional security and growth.

The US, on the other hand, reaffirmed that its commitment to fostering security and stability in the Indo-Pacific will serve as the foundation for AUKUS efforts.

“Allies are more powerful when they cooperate. According to Kanishka Gangopadhyay, a spokeswoman for the US Embassy in Manila, “the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia are strengthening our collective ability through AUKUS to sustain peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

The US is dedicated to working closely with the Philippines on security matters as allies.
