Expert: the problem of outdated Covid-19 vaccines on a global scale

According to a health expert on Thursday, the low rate of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination and booster injection participation in the nation might be improved with ongoing education and community outreach.

In a televised public briefing, infectious disease specialist Dr. Edsel Salvaa stated, “I think that the problem is, siyempre takot na takot lahat noon ang mga tao at the start, ang bilis nung uptake (people were scared at the start, the uptake was quick then)”.

However, psychology is what it truly is in this case since if the present risk is not evident to the person, they would likely prioritize other things above them. People do not prioritize vaccination if they cannot plainly understand the threat that exists now.

Before, Maria Rosario Vergeire, the Department of Health’s officer in charge, estimated that 44 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine program were wasted altogether. She mentioned that among the wasted shots were those that were damaged or expired as a result of fire, extreme temperature changes, natural disasters, and other occurrences.

According to medical professionals, the issue of discarded or expired vaccines is a global problem.

Iyong mga ibang bivalent vaccinations from the US are currently being stockpiled. The US has a stockpile of bivalent vaccines, so even when I travel there in October, I won’t be able to use them because I’m a US citizen. Even though I am not a US citizen, they gave me a shot when I visited in October since I requested one, Salvana said.

“I believe that continuing education is important, and at the same time, that it is very important to appeal to the sense of community in the people who believe that when the level of community immunity is higher, we are better able to protect the more vulnerable members of society,” he continued.

A total of 23,811,248 people have received booster shots, bringing the total number of people who have been immunized against Covid-19 up to 78,443,972, or 100.4 percent of the target population for the nation (78,100,578).

The COVAX Facility expects to donate around 1,002,000 doses of bivalent vaccines, which should arrive in the third or fourth week of this month.
