On Sunday, the Pope urged the faithful to maintain their faith despite failure or discouragement.

Francis urged the 35,000 people gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Angelus prayer not to “let ourselves be crushed by negative feelings” or to be burdened by “the pain, the mistakes, and even the failures” and to not “hide them inside.” Francis was commenting on the day’s Gospel, which was about the resurrection of Lazarus.

The Pope urged people to “take off the bandages that bind you; please do not give in to the pessimism that depresses, do not give in to the fear that isolates, do not give in to discouragement due to the memory of bad experiences, do not give in to the fear that paralyzes.”

Jesus tells us to “go, go on! I’m with you, he continued.

The Pope prayed at the Angelus for the people of Ukraine, those impacted by the earthquakes on February 6 in Turkey and Syria, those afflicted by the tornado that hit Mississippi on Saturday, and for peace and reconciliation in Peru.

A delegation from the Italian Air Force, which is commemorating its centennial on March 28, also received a special greeting from him.
