The Marcos administration is committed to implementing the Bangsamoro peace agreement.
The Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. government is dedicated to upholding all commitments made as part of the Bangsamoro peace process.
“Under the banner of unification raised by the Marcos Administration, the national government is more determined than ever to uphold the promises it made in all signed Bangsamoro peace agreements. It will not stray from this commitment, OPAPRU acting chief secretary Isidro L. Purisima declared in a statement for the celebration of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) signing’s ninth anniversary on Monday.
Additionally, he stated that OPAPRU “shall ensure” to advance, maintain, and expand upon the successes of the Bangsamoro peace process.
This, according to Purisima, would be the key to ensuring that the Bangsamoro people have a better, brighter, and more progressive future.
“Let us remember what has brought all of us to this point โ our willingness to let go of the past, go beyond our differences, and walk shoulder to shoulder in the name of peace,” he continued. “As we commemorate the 9th Anniversary of CAB’s signing.
Purisima added that the CAB put an end to the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s decades-long war. (MILF).
The event, he continued, was significant not just for the Bangsamoro people but also for the entire Filipino people since the war’s weapons were silenced.
The OPAPRU chief recalled, “And residents who used to awake to the sound of mortar fire would start hearing the hum of bulldozers, trucks, and farming equipment.”
“Our people rejoiced because they knew in their hearts that a new chapter in the history of the country was dawning,” Purisima emphasized. “From the grounds of Malacaang where the CAB was forged, to the sprawling flatlands of Central Mindanao and the island provinces which used to be the site of fierce gun battles.
The CAB, he continued, is a unique document because it captures the goals, hopes, and desires of the Bangsamoro people, who have been fighting for self-determination and self-government for 30 years.
The agreement also demonstrates the GPH and MILF’s sincerity, dedication, and resolve to find common ground and cooperate to ensure the welfare of the Bangsamoro people, the OPAPRU chairman said.
He added that the Bangsamoro Organization Law (BOL), which operationalized the CAB, and the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao (BARMM) and its regional administration were both made possible by the CAB.
“However, the CAB’s greatest achievement is that it has produced a new generation of servant-leaders. They were once viewed as experienced combatants and military strategists, but now they are devoted public servants,” Purisima said.
Additionally, he continued, the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) is proving that the MILF is more than qualified to handle the reins of government under the capable leadership of BARMM Chief Minister Balwag Ebrahim Murad.
The OPAPRU leader observed that “they have now evolved into agents of peace and development.”
Additionally, he said that the BTA’s Parliament had passed critical legislation that was improving the lives of its citizens and turning the region’s formerly violent and conflict-prone districts into shining examples of peace and development.
Purisima noted that the Normalization Program under the CAB, which assists former MILF combatants in making the successful transition to peaceful and useful members of society, is also being carried out by the National Government in collaboration with the BARMM Government.
The rewards of peace, he continued, are now being felt by the communities and families of MILF members, as various joint GPH-MILF peace institutions continue to offer socioeconomic interventions to them.
