As the deadline of April 26 draws closer, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) urged mobile subscribers on Monday to register their subscriber identity module (SIM) cards.

Unregistered SIM cards at the conclusion of the registration period would be deactivated, the DICT stated in a statement.

They won’t be able to use voice calls, text messages, or mobile data services as a result of this. The government’s efforts to strengthen national security and reduce fraudulent activities like scams and identity theft are reflected in this measure, it was stated.

Despite an increase in compliance with the registration effort in recent months, it was noticed that only about 30% of the estimated 168,977,773 active mobile users were registered.

“As of March 26, 2023, the following SIM brands have the most registered SIMs: DITO (3,963,358), Globe (21,682,365), and SMART (26,734,423). The total number of registered SIMs now stands at 52,380,146,” it stated.

It recommended the general public exercise caution while registering SIM cards and be sure to do so via the official websites of commercial telecom providers. (PTEs).

Users of Smart, Globe, and DITO must register at smart.com.ph/simreg or simreg.smart.com.ph, new.globe.com.ph/simreg, and digital.dito.ph/pto/download/app, respectively.

The DICT’s hotline 1326 is another way for anyone with queries or worries concerning SIM registration to get in touch with them.
