Cash-for-work program recipients from 5,099 households in Libmanan, Camarines Sur, received PHP18.3 million from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) as part of the Kapitbisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS).

Libmanan is one of the 12 municipalities adopting the CFW this year, according to Adelaida P. Escurel, deputy regional program manager for DSWD-5 KALAHI-CIDSS, in an interview on Wednesday.

Escurel explained that the distribution, which took place last March 22–23 for the 66 barangays in Libmanan, “implemented sub-projects under CFW mechanism, such as clearing and desilting of waterways, clearing and grubbing of vegetation on pathways or road shoulders and public places, trimming of tree branches in mitigation for upcoming typhoons, the establishment of communal gardening and coastal clean-up.”

She mentioned that the aforementioned program has also benefited the municipalities of Baleno, Masbate, and Del Gallego, Camarines Sur.

According to Escurel, “Cash-for-work is a program that offers cash assistance to sectors affected by the crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic in exchange for their community service.”

Additionally, she stated that the CFW offers temporary employment to families with low or no income, homeless or street families, returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), indigenous peoples (IPs), pregnant women, elders, and people with disabilities (PWDs), as well as families living in conflict-affected or difficult-to-reach communities.
