Philippines Traveler advice before the busy Holy Week

In the lead-up to the Easter holidays, airport personnel observes a massive inflow of travelers.

Manila: Due to upcoming Holy Week travel, be careful to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.

With the anticipated increase in travelers in the lead-up to Christian Holy Week and Easter, that is the advice offered to depart passengers by airport authorities here on Wednesday.

The following advice has been provided to travelers by Philippine airport authorities in light of the rush and in order to prevent pointless delays:

  • Arriving three hours prior to an international departure and two hours prior to a local flight was advised for departing passengers.
  • Pack your own bags if you’re traveling.
  • To avoid holding up traffic at security checks, avoid bringing prohibited items.
  • On the Office of Transport Security (OTS) website and on social media, you can view the list of prohibited items on board the airplane.
  • extraordinary demand
  • The Philippines’ top tourist sites, Manila, Cebu, and Clark, are experiencing unprecedented demand from foreigners and visitors as the travel season approaches its peak from the coming week until around Easter Sunday, April 9.

Since airlines have increased flight services to the Asian nation, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) authorities reported that more than 1.2 million people are expected to transit through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from April 1 to 10, 2023.

In a news conference on Wednesday, MIAA senior assistant general manager Bryan Co said, “We are on the road to recovery.” He said that there are procedures in place to deal with the surge of airport customers.

Proactive actions

He claims that criteria set forth by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) permit airline staff to search for passengers who are still in line during or prior to the boarding call.

The airline staff may then point the travelers to another immigration desk where their paperwork can be handled more quickly.

Added airport personnel

The agency has committed 60 staffers, the official told the Philippine News Agency (PNA), to help replenish the NAIA workforce during Holy Week.

The source said that airlines were instructed to close their desks promptly and stop accepting clients after the cut-off hour in order to help reduce the long waits.

140,000 total passengers

During Holy Week, the MIAA forecasted a daily passenger volume at NAIA of up to 140,000, an increase from the current daily average of 120,000 travelers.

The “threat and vulnerability assessment team” will be deployed in various transportation facilities starting on April 1, according to information released on Wednesday by the Office for Transportation Security (OTS).

The nation’s airports will employ more than 2,400 people.
