False crime reports on social media are condemned by NCRPO.

The robbery events involving a Japanese restaurant, a coffee shop, and a Chinese restaurant that have been circulating on social media recently have been labeled as fake news by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Sunday.

The NCRPO claimed in a statement that it investigated the purported crimes in Quezon City that were trending on social media but ultimately proved to be fake or misleading right away.

“Please be aware that the NCRPO takes all reports seriously. After noticing that the aforementioned message was spreading through numerous communication platforms, we looked into and verified the aforementioned information right away. Our inquiry has led us to the unequivocal conclusion that these purported occurrences are untrue and/or deceptive “Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, head of the NCRPO, stated on Sunday.

He claimed that the alleged incident took place at a specific Japanese restaurant roughly four years ago. Since then, the establishment has tightened security, and no reports have been filed.

According to Okubo, the two more reported crimes at a well-known coffee shop and a Chinese restaurant were also proven to be unfounded and fraudulent.

He gave the populace advice on how to share information responsibly.

“We are aware of the potential harm and concern that can be brought on by misleading information, especially when it is widely disseminated on social media sites. Every member of the public is urged to check the accuracy of any information before passing it along to others. Also, we ask that people avoid disseminating any untrue rumors or information that can endanger or alarm members of our community “added Okubo.

With the purpose of pursuing the authors of the fraudulent reports, the NCRPO is collaborating with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group.
