A health official announced on Wednesday that the second booster shot of the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine would soon be given to the general public.

“We’ll be giving second boosters for healthy adults, those who are 18 years old and over who have not yet received their second booster [shots],” said Department of Health (DOH) officer in charge Maria Rosario Vergeire in a media forum.

At least three Covid-19 injections could be used as second booster doses, according to the advice of the Health Technology Assessment Council and the most recent Food and Drug Administration list of emergency use authorizations.

These vaccinations are from Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca.

“The guidelines are being drafted, these were presented to the executive committee of the Department of Health last week, we have provided our comments, and it’s being finalized,” she said. “Hopefully within the week we can issue, and we can start the implementation as soon as possible.”

More than 78.4 million Filipinos had received all of their vaccinations as of March 16. Nearly 4.4 million people have received their second booster dose, while more than 23.8 million have already received their first.

Nearly 7.2 million of the population who have had all of their vaccinations are seniors, 10.2 million are teenagers, and 5.6 million are youngsters.
