A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by the municipal administrations of Antipolo and Buk-gu in South Korea on Tuesday with the goal of fostering stronger economic connections and efficient information sharing between the two regions.

In ceremonies held at the Antipolo City Hall, Mayor Casimiro Ynares III and Mayor Mun Il of Buk-gu signed the historic agreement.

The MOU allows for the sharing of information deemed useful for joint economic development, according to Lloyd Libutan, executive assistant to the mayor of Antipolo.

The sides also concurred to cooperate in order to advance and broaden both economies “in accordance with the principle of mutual benefit,” according to the statement.

With the MOU in place, Libutan continued, Antipolo and Buk-gu will immediately begin a “partnership for successful economic development exchanges and cooperation.”

The 10-member South Korean team led by Mayor Mun Il was in town for the MOU signing.

Following the signing of the contract, the international guests were given tokens from their host that included popular Antipolo goods like “suman,” or glutinous rice cake, and “kasuy,” or cashew nuts.

The autonomous district of Buk-gu, sometimes referred to as Buk District, is located in the northern section of Gwangju City, the sixth-largest metropolis in South Korea.
