A permanent ban on pork and pork products originating from Cebu and other areas impacted by the African Swine Fever was imposed by the province administration of Negros Oriental (ASF).

Executive Order No. 23, dated April 18, 2023, was signed by Governor Carlo Jorge Reyes and extended the whole prohibition indefinitely while rescinding the ban order from March 3.

There is a complete restriction on the importation of live hogs, pork, pork-related goods, and byproducts from the province of Cebu and other ASF-affected areas through all ports and Negros Oriental’s borders, including frozen boar semen.

Also, the new EO forbids the transportation of live hogs, pork, and any associated goods to Cebu for a period of 30 days.

When Cebu first learned that Negros was the source of the ASF contamination in that province, it imposed a restriction on the importation of swine and its byproducts.

Later media reports claimed that it had been shown that ASF cases had already been found in Carcar City, Cebu, prior to Negros being identified as the source.
Negros Oriental, according to Tundag, is still clear of ASF, so the province must take precautions to keep it that way.

He claimed that the most recent prohibition in the province had caused alarm among hog traders and farmers.

Prior to the embargo due to ASF, Tundag claimed that 20,000–30,000 pig heads were shipped out of Negros Oriental each month.
