On May 1 (US time), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and President Joe Biden will have a private meeting in Washington, DC, the White House said on Friday.

According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Biden will discuss with Marcos how to fortify the two countries’ partnership and reiterate the US’ unwavering commitment to the protection of the Philippines.

The two leaders will discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation, advance inclusive prosperity, strengthen the unique people-to-people relations between our two countries, fund the transition to renewable energy and the battle against climate change, and uphold human rights, she said.

The two presidents will coordinate their efforts to protect international law, advance a free and open Indo-Pacific, and talk about regional issues as well, she continued.

Marcos will be in the US from April 30 to May 4 for a formal working visit. While there, he will meet with US lawmakers, significant US firms, and business organizations in addition to Filipino Americans.

His discussion with Biden will be followed by a larger gathering with important Cabinet members. (
