Compared to the prior year, the MIMAROPA Region’s economic performance significantly improved in 2022, according to the most recent official government statistics.

On Thursday, the Philippine Statistics Authority said that MIMAROPA’s Gross Regional Domestic Performance (GRDP) increased by 6.3 percent in 2016.

This exceeded pre-pandemic levels and nearly twice the five-province region’s 3.3% GRDP increase in 2021.

The transportation and storage sector experienced the largest growth rate, at 41.3 percent, according to Leni Rioflorido, regional director for PSA in MIMAROPA, during a press conference.

Other sectors that showed noteworthy results included the construction industry, which had a 13.5 percent gain, and the lodging and food services sector, which saw a 38.2 percent increase.

Professional and commercial services increased by 9.1%, education had a growth of 6.5%, and the technology and communication industry saw a growth of 6.2%.

The mining and quarrying sector declined 5.1 percent, while agriculture, forestry, and fisheries saw a negative performance of 2.4 percent, according to the PSA’s report.

Formerly known as the Southwestern Tagalog Region, MIMAROPA comprises the provinces of Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
