PBBM: The government promised to cooperate closely with the media.

Assuring media professionals of the state’s continuous commitment to preserving them and their rights in the exercise of their profession, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. committed on Thursday to continue working “hand-in-hand” with the media to strengthen press freedom.

The President said this while attending the Manila Polo Club in Makati City’s Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) 50th anniversary.

“This government will remain committed to ensuring transparency and good governance, freedom of expression and the press, and the protection of media practitioners and their professional rights,” added Marcos.

The President pledged to “work hard” to “climb our way up” in the rankings of press freedom worldwide as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of World Press Freedom Day.

The President mentioned in his speech the “instrumental role” played by the media in educating the populace, influencing public opinion, and “even triggering social mobilization and change.”

Therefore, the chief executive exhorted the press to “lead and foster public discussion, truth, and credibility, the rule of law, especially in the practice of broadcasting, news reporting, and information dissemination.”

Additionally, KBP received praise from Marcos for successfully establishing itself as an “institution of national significance” and serving as an “efficient instrument of public service in Philippine society.”

“Throughout the years, your brand of public service has been in its advocacy of promoting independence and freedom of broadcast media, responsibility and enhanced public service in broadcasting, and the advancement of innovation and development of Philippine broadcasting,” he added.

The President claims the KBP “maintained its social relevance, acting as a uniting and balancing force of broadcast organizations.”

“Over the years, the KBP has continued to be a visible, involved, and impartial advocate for the rights and duties of its members and other industry participants. You have promoted liberty, independence, and industry capacity-building,” the President continued. (
