In celebration of National Health Workers’ Day on Monday, the Department of Health (DOH) held a job fair where 819 openings in its various hospitals across the nation were advertised.

In a media briefing on Tuesday, DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire stated, “Meron ho tayong (We have) 291 applications that we were able to receive for these 819 available plantilla [positions] that we provided to our fellowmen.

“We don’t have immediately hired candidates because the Department of Health’s plantilla positions must first meet the requirements of the Civil Service Commission,” she continued. “Wala ho tayong immediately hired kase ho ang mga plantilla sa Department of Health kailangan mag-qualify muna.”

Vergeire has directed the Centers for Health Development and regional offices to hold job fairs to fill the openings in the DOH hospitals.

53 people engaged in the free medical consultations and HIV testing that the DOH provided at its Manila headquarters, in addition to job-seeking services.

Similarly, 472 medical professionals received free haircuts, massages, manicures, and pedicures, while others received pneumococcal vaccinations.

In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and booths for the SSS (Social Security System), PhilHealth, GSIS (Government Service Insurance System), and Pag-IBIG ID cards application, we also designated a Kadiwa here yesterday, Vergeire said.

She assured the health professionals that the DOH would continue to make every effort to advance their development through the provision of scholarships and other professional opportunities and through advocacy for legislation that would standardize pay for both the public and private sectors.
