On Tuesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. praised the departing Singaporean ambassador to the Philippines, Gerard Ho Wei Hong, for fostering better ties between the two countries.

Ho received a farewell visit from Marcos at the Study Room at Malacaang, during which he conveyed his sincere gratitude for all he has done for the Philippines.

He made special notice of the fact that under Ho’s ambassadorship, Singaporean trade and investment volumes increased in the nation.

The Singaporean representative was awarded the Order of Sikatuna with the Rank of Datu (Grand Cross) Silver Distinction in appreciation of his substantial efforts to advance the bilateral relationship.

The citation lists Ambassador Ho’s noteworthy contributions as his support and facilitation of numerous government-to-government cooperation agreements in economic, security, and inter-group interactions. It also mentions his efforts to secure and deliver humanitarian aid to the nation during the pandemic of natural disasters and the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Ho’s efforts to promote harmony and respect between the Singaporean and Filipino peoples were also acknowledged.

Ho served as Singapore’s chief diplomat in the Philippines for four years.
