As it strives for double-digit growth this year, the Korean automaker Kia is still enthusiastic about the Philippine market.

John Dahlen, national head of sales for KIA Philippines, claimed that the company’s optimism resulted from its year-over-year rise despite supply limitations.

In a media event on Tuesday night in Taguig City, Dahlen stated, “We are targeting to achieve a double-digit year-to-date volume growth in 2023.”

He said that Stonic, which accounted for nearly half of Kia’s sales during the first five months of the year, continues to be the company’s key sales driver. The Soluto, K2500, Carnival, Sorento, and EV6 come afterward.

Kia sold 2,100 vehicles in the Philippine market from January to May this year; Dahlen reported a 19% increase over the same period last year.

Sales are anticipated to improve towards the second half of 2023; he continued, “considering the availability of models again, and this is because of the major models we feel will deliver a volume for Kia.

Dahlen stated that additional dealerships will be opened nationwide to accommodate the increase.

With one opening soon in Bacoor, Kia now has 45 locations nationally. By 2025, the automaker hopes to have 50 dealerships.

In the meantime, Brian Buendia has been named the new chief operating officer of Kia Philippines, succeeding Manny Aligada as president.

Among his goals for Kia include improving its consumers’ purchasing and ownership experience, boosting the company’s ranks in the industry, growing the number of dealerships it has, and making Kia a significant player in the electric car market. (
