ππ‘οΈ Climate crisis more alarming, 40 areas in PH at most risk: CCC
πͺοΈπ₯ The Climate Change Commission (CCC) warns that climate change poses an increasingly alarming threat to the Philippines, with around 40 areas considered highly vulnerable to extreme weather events.
ποΈπΏ CCC vice chairperson Robert Borje emphasizes enhancing the country’s climate action plan to achieve resilience and sustainability.
π The CCC is closely working with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to identify the localities most affected by climate change.
π§ͺ While the Marcos administration is progressing in addressing climate change, Borje acknowledges the need to strengthen further efforts to mitigate its effects on the country.
π The CCC and DILG aim to ensure that all local government units (LGUs) nationwide implement their Local Climate Change Action Plans (LCCAPs).
π Data from CCC data shows a 95% increase in LCCAP submissions, with the target of 100% compliance from 1,715 LGUs by Fiscal Year 2024.
πΌ Borje emphasizes the importance of a coherent and integrated approach, partnering with the private sector and development partners in the fight against climate change.
π° The Philippines has allocated USD 8.2 billion, or 9% of its national budget, for climate change adaptation and mitigation programs this year.
π₯ The CCC plays a crucial role in coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating government programs to ensure the integration of climate change considerations in national, local, and sectoral development plans for the climate-resilient Philippines.
