🐖🛑 Swine Deaths Slow Down in Negros Occidental 📉

In the past few days, the number of swine deaths caused by hog cholera and other diseases has significantly decreased in Negros Occidental, despite cases being reported in 19 out of the province’s 31 local government units.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed on Wednesday that the provincial government is strictly following the protocols established by the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) to address the issue of hog mortalities.

“We’re pleased to see a significant reduction in mortality, from over 400 days to less than 150. We simply adhered to the protocols implemented by the BAI. We didn’t neglect our responsibilities. We hope to reach a point where there are no more deaths, and we can begin cleaning up the affected areas. I believe that will happen in the next three months,” Lacson stated.

However, Lacson emphasized that the province will not rush into repopulation. Instead, they will conduct test runs to ensure the survival of new pigs.

“If there are still deaths, we will halt the process. For now, we will focus on other livestock,” he added.

As of July 4, the Provincial Animal Biosecurity Incident Management Team reported that a total of 15,726 hogs in Negros Occidental have succumbed to hog cholera and other diseases, resulting in over PHP178 million in losses for the province’s swine industry.

In the coming month, the provincial government plans to provide financial assistance to over 4,000 families who have reported swine deaths. Each family will receive PHP2,000 in cash aid, which is expected to be distributed in the first or second week of July, according to Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II. 💔🐷💼
