🌋🤒 In response to the ongoing unrest at Mayon Volcano, the Department of Health (DOH) has provided essential aid to evacuees in Albay, where 1,624 cases of acute respiratory infections have been recorded. These cases, including coughs, colds, and sore throats, are closely monitored through syndromic surveillance. The DOH earlier cautioned about potential health issues from ashfall exposure, such as eye, nose, and throat irritation, bronchitis-like symptoms, and skin problems.

Notably, cases of fever, headaches, and wounds have shown a decline, and as of July 16, there have been no new reported cases of COVID-19 among evacuees. The DOH reassures the public that there are no active or confirmed COVID-19 cases in evacuation camps, and those previously reported have tested negative and been released from isolation.

The department is closely tracking the mental health of evacuees, ensuring they receive timely updates and support for their daily needs during their displacement. To promote positive mental well-being, the DOH encourages evacuees to seek medical assistance for any symptoms affecting their mental health.

To support the evacuees further, healthcare workers and senior citizens in the evacuation centers have received bivalent COVID-19 vaccines as their third booster doses. While discussions continue on bivalent vaccines as first and second boosters, the 390,000 donated doses were specifically allocated for third boosters.

As the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) predicts that the volcano’s unrest may last for weeks or months before a potential eruption, the DOH has prepared evacuees for the possibility of an extended stay at the evacuation sites. With the situation being monitored closely, the government remains committed to providing the necessary aid and support to ensure the well-being of the affected communities. 🏥🌿💪
