NGCP Responds to PBBM’s Call, Commits to Accelerate Transmission Projects 🚀

📰 MANILA – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has vowed to expedite the completion of critical transmission projects nationwide following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call-out of NGCP for project delays during his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

In an official statement, NGCP pledged its commitment to President Marcos’s 2023 energy initiatives. The company determined to focus all available resources on completing ongoing transmission projects and accelerating those in the pipeline.

During Monday’s SONA, President Marcos cited an Energy Regulatory Commission’s report indicating 68 delayed projects by NGCP, with particular emphasis on the timely delivery of the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP) and Stage 3 of the Cebu-Negros-Panay Interconnection Project (CNP3).

NGCP confirmed that these two projects are their top priorities.

“We have made significant progress on both of these vital projects, with the MVIP on track to be fully energized to 450 MW (megawatts) by the third quarter of this year,” the company stated.

The system operator also called upon local government units (LGUs) to promptly grant relevant permits for these projects and provide necessary assistance in resolving right-of-way issues that have hindered smooth project implementation.

“We reiterate the President’s call for a cohesive, centralized, and systematic approach to planning, including energy planning for stability, resiliency, and independence. We echo the President’s observation that achieving national goals will require the collective efforts of all Filipinos working together,” said Anthony Almeda, NGCP President and Chief Executive Officer.

With the increasing use of renewable energy (RE) in the country’s power mix, NGCP highlighted its strategic partnership with the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC).

“Leveraging SGCC’s expertise in renewable energy integration, NGCP aims to enhance its capabilities to accelerate the transition to renewable and sustainable energy sources. This collaboration allows us to integrate renewable energy technologies into the national grid effectively,” the system operator explained.

Additionally, NGCP emphasized its commitment to improving the disaster resilience of grid infrastructure by upgrading equipment and enhancing manpower.

“We share the President’s sentiments. Even before the SONA, NGCP has been diligently working towards his vision. Now that we have heard it directly from him, completely aligned with ours, we are more motivated to achieve all our objectives promptly,” Almeda affirmed. 💪
