An official from Davao’s largest mall chain has encouraged companies to establish a presence in Mindanao in order to capitalize on the vast possibilities in the country’s south.

NCC Group of Companies president and chief executive officer Lafayette Lim said in a webinar on Davao Investment Conference (ICon) 2021 on October 13, 2021, that Mindanao, especially the Davao area, is now a major driver for development in the Philippines.

“Davao 20 years ago is nothing like Davao now,” he added.

Lim said that the southern Philippines’ infrastructure, coastal roads, and inter-island bridges are improving transportation and logistics in the area.

“Investments in electricity, water, and telecommunications have significantly enhanced the region’s preparedness to take on further growth.” Economic zones and sophisticated industrial hubs are also sprouting up on both sides of the country,” he said.

Lim said that numerous educational institutions have built schools in Mindanao, particularly in the Davao area, which would result in more qualified employees in the region.

He said that the Davao area is a key business site since it presents itself as a critical gateway not just for local companies but also for the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines–East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

“The phrase ‘give Mindanao a chance’ is out of date and no longer applies. Taking Mindanao for granted and overlooking it is a poor business choice. Join us here in Mindanao and let’s develop and flourish together if you want to lay your cards properly,” he said.
