Maguindanao is a province in the Philippines. During law enforcement operations in Marawi City, police and telecoms officials seized more than 50 unlawfully operated cellular mobile repeaters and portable cell sites, officials said Saturday.

The operation was launched by the BTC-BARMM, police, and military in response to complaints from telecommunication companies and mobile phone users about the widespread use of illegal boosters, according to Commissioner Muhammad Ameen Abbas of the Bangsamoro Telecommunications Commission in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BTC-BARMM).

According to Abbas, the battle against the widespread and unrelenting use of repeaters, or illegal signal boosters, was carried out in both Marawi City and the municipalities of Lanao del Sur.

He said the operation was carried out in accordance with the National Telecommunications Commission’s Memorandum Order No. 01-02-2013, which restricts the use of such devices that interfere with the services of the country’s major telecommunication carriers.

“The legislation states that selling or acquiring a signal booster is completely banned,” Abbas stated.

He urged BARMM constituents to cooperate with BTC-BARMM in order to resolve the communications problem caused by illicit boosters.

It will boost the internet signal in Ali Datu Ulama’s Marawi City residence, he claimed.

“My children are enrolled in online classes. They’re having trouble connecting due to illegal boosters in our neighborhood,” Ulama remarked.

The BTC operation to eliminate banned gadgets has received complete backing from BARMM police officials, who say it affects their everyday operations.
