The Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) has sent eight people and some equipment to the town of Liloan in Cebu, where Typhoon Odette hit, to help with the restoration of power.

Randy Castilan, a lawyer for Decorp and a spokeswoman for the company, said his team has been in the area since December 23 and is going to stay longer because of the high demand.

“We thought at first that they would stay for at least two weeks, but it looks like they need to stay longer because of how much damage there is.”

People from Castilan say they have sent three articulated vehicles and trucks, as well as eight other people, to help.

It’s part of a plan by the private utility distribution association in the whole Philippines to help other utility distribution companies that were hit by a typhoon, he said.

When disasters happen, Decorp usually sends money to help. But he said that restoring power in the Visayas area after the storm is what is “most needed.”

This is what Castilan said: The company already helped with power line repairs in Albay and Samar after a lot of bad things happened there in the last few years.

Angeles Electric Corporation, Iligan Light and Power Incorporated, Tarlac Electric Incorporated, and San Fernando Electric Light and Power Company are also assisting in the line repairs in the Visayas area.
