NVOC reports that 21K Covid-19 vax dosages were squandered owing to ‘Odette.’
A health official said on Friday that 21,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccination were thrown away in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette in December of last year.
Myrna Cabotaje, Health Undersecretary and Chair of the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC), revealed that reports of vaccine waste had been received from Iloilo, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.
In a Laging Handa briefing, she remarked, “About 21,000 po ang officially reported to us na hindi may magamit (are officially reported to us that can no longer be used).”
Cabotaje went on to say that the NVOC is working on finishing the reports because some places have yet to file theirs owing to downed communication and power lines.
Cabotaje said 23 local government units in Mimaropa, Southern Leyte, and Iloilo have resumed their vaccination push, citing the latest NVOC data.
Western Visayas has already resumed its vaccination campaign at 70 to 75 percent capacity, whereas Caraga, Surigao del Norte, and the Dinagat Islands have yet to fully begin their immunization activities.
The government has fully vaccinated 51.7 million people to date.
Approximately 57.4 million people have gotten their first dose, with another 2.8 million receiving booster doses.
Furthermore, the government has deployed 146 million of the 210 million Covid-19 vaccine doses it received as donations from other countries, as well as shots purchased by the national government, local government entities, and the private sector.
