Only health personnel are authorized to be quarantined for a shorter period of time: Palace
Only hospital employees and those in “severe conditions” are allowed to undergo shorter quarantines, according to Malacanang.
This came after certain airlines asked for the quarantine and isolation measures for a flight crew to be shortened.
Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, said healthcare workers are allowed to follow shorter quarantine and isolation protocols as determined by their respective hospitals’ Infection, Prevention, and Control Committee, according to Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) rules.
“Ang binigyan lang ng IATF na shorter quarantine and shorter isolation are (The IATF has only allowed shorter quarantine and shorter isolation for) healthcare workers working in hospitals, and it is the hospital’s Infection, Prevention, and Control Committee that is authorized to shorten quarantine and isolation” (that is authorized to shorten them). “Anyone else, including aircraft crews, must follow these standards for the general public,” he stated during a press conference at the Palace.
Non-healthcare personnel, he noted, must follow the same quarantine and isolation measures as the general public.
Currently, Covid-19 positive people who are asymptomatic or have mild to moderate symptoms must be isolated for 10 days unless their doctor advises otherwise.
Those with severe and life-threatening symptoms must be isolated for 21 days unless their doctor advises otherwise.
Individuals who have been exposed to Covid-19 patients who are fully vaccinated must undertake a 7-day quarantine, while those who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated must endure a 14-day quarantine or follow their doctor’s recommendation.
Airline executives had previously requested that quarantine and isolation requirements for flight crews be simplified in order to address the shortage of manpower faced by local carriers as a result of flight crews being exposed to Covid-19 positive patients who required quarantine.
According to them, the request is made to ensure that commercial and government planes are not hampered, particularly in the transit of overseas Filipino employees (OFWs).
Right of sick employees
Meanwhile, Nograles warned that employers who force Covid-19 positive employees to report to work could be held liable under labor laws and the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Concern Act (RA) No. 11332.
According to reports, despite testing positive for Covid-19, a courier company allegedly required its employees to report to work.
“Mayroon na iyan na labor law infractions…
And as for the IATF, sa mga IATF issuances at dahil sa paglabag, kung diumano kung totoo itong nakuha nilang report, kung itong kumpanya na ito, sinumang kumpanya ang lumalabag sa mga IATF resolutions at kautusan ng IATF, maging ang Pangul
And, in terms of the IATF, if this report is accurate, any corporation that breaches the IATF’s resolutions, including the President, is in violation of the Notifiable Disease Act),” he stated.
Individuals who test positive for Covid-19, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, are urged to isolate by the national government.
