The next shipment of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine provided by the United States arrived in the Philippines on Monday night, bolstering the country’s supply as it prepares booster shots for healthcare workers.
Around 10:10 p.m., the plane carrying a total of 301,860 doses, which had passed through the COVAX Facility, landed at NAIA Terminal 3 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor, the strategic communications lead on current activities for the National Task Force Against Covid-19, thanked the US government for the grant in an interview.
These immunizations, he claimed, would be targeted at healthcare staff, senior folks, people with comorbidities, and the poor.
The mayor stated that the government is planning to administer booster doses, but that clearance and guidelines from the World Health Organization are still pending.
“‘Yung sa booster shot or third shot, hinihintay pa natin’yung experts panel ano saka ‘yung WHO guidelines.’
Before we implement the usage of a booster dose, we must first get approval from the expert panel and follow the WHO and DOH guidelines as well as the vaccine cluster’s recommendations “Added he.
Meanwhile, starting November 17, fully vaccinated healthcare employees can get booster injections.
Regardless of the brand used in the primary series, the Department of Health recommends utilizing Moderna, Pfizer, and Sinovac shots as booster doses, according to an alert issued Monday night.
On November 16, the department will announce booster shot guidelines.
While the use of a third dose in the general public has yet to be approved, Vaccines continue to provide strong protection against severe sickness, hospitalization, and death from Covid-19, according to health professionals, pending the findings of the research.
The Food and Drug Administration in the United States has approved booster doses for adults who are at high risk of severe Covid-19 as a result of underlying medical disorders, as well as health care personnel.
