The DTI applauds the first SME to list on the PSE this year.
Ramon Lopez, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), praised real estate developer Haus Talk, Inc. for becoming the first small and medium firm (SME) to go public this year.
On Monday, the Madlambayan family’s company Haus Talk had its initial public offering (IPO) on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).
Lopez noted during the PSE listing of Haus Talk that public listing might assist SMEs to expand their enterprises by allowing them to access more financial resources.
“May this IPO serve as an inspiration for more MSMEs to aim to scale up as Haus Talk has.” “Perhaps this will also serve to emphasize the message that our capital market is strong and ready to support the expansion of our SMEs,” he added.
Lopez emphasized Haus Talk’s decision to go public in the midst of the pandemic.
“Haus Talk took the risk of joining PSE’s hand-holding program, and the results will undoubtedly motivate other SMEs to embark on the path to IPO in order to expand, grow, and have a long-term impact on clients, employees, and other stakeholders,” the trade chief added.
While the government pursues the “Build, Build, Build” campaign, he urged the private sector, particularly SMEs, to push for additional construction and infrastructure projects to aid the country’s economic recovery and employment creation in the midst of the pandemic.
“(W)e encourage you to carry out your own ‘Build, Build, Build’ expansion plans since these economic activities not only help to increase housing access, but they also have a multiplier effect in terms of job creation,” he added.
PSE President Ramon Monzon was also complemented by the DTI chief for “demystifying the participation of MSMEs in PSE,” which would allow them to tap into equities market opportunities and strengthen governance in their businesses.
