The palace expects that voters will be properly immunized in time for the 2022 elections.
Malacanang expressed hope on Tuesday that all registered voters would be completely vaccinated against Covid-19 in time for the May 9 national and local elections.
By the first quarter of 2022, Nograles added, the national government hopes to have fully vaccinated 77 million Filipinos, including voters, to help protect them from serious disease and death caused by the virus.
“Bago pa man sumapit ang April or maybe May, gusto natin yung adult population natin lahat po ay fully vaccinated,” says the researcher. sa ganoong paraan dagdag proteksyon para sa mga botante (We want our adult population to be fully vaccinated before April or even May. That manner, voters would have an extra layer of security),” he stated at a press conference at the Palace.
Aside from having their Covid-19 shots, Nograles recommends that voters continue to follow minimum public health requirements in polling sites.
“Yung bakuna is one layer of protection, but yung ‘Mask, Hugas, Iwas,’ gaya ng sinabi ni [Health] Secretary Duque kagabi sa Talk to the People, more than 90% protection yun, adherence natin to minimum public health standards,” he added.
Meanwhile, he stated that the Palace will delegate responsibility for ensuring that the Covid-19 health protocols are followed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Duterte deputized the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other law enforcement forces for the May 2022 elections on December 31, 2021.
Law enforcement authorities and other concerned entities are directed to coordinate and cooperate with the Comelec in the fulfillment of their duties and functions under Memorandum Order No. 59.
Unvaccinated voters will be permitted to vote in the forthcoming elections, according to the Comelec.
Those in quarantine, on the other hand, are not permitted to vote unless Congress approves legislation permitting them to vote by mail.
According to the Department of Health, a total of 55,195,488 Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as of January 17.
According to Nograles, the country will be able to fully vaccinate 70% of its total population in 53 days if vaccination continues at its current rate.
