In comparison to last week, a lower percentage of railway passengers in the National Capital Region (NCR) who took part in free random antigen testing confirmed positive for Covid-19.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that on Tuesday, it conducted 258 antigen testing in the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

75 passengers were tested on the LRT-2, with two positive results; 96 passengers were tested on the MRT-3, with one positive result; and 87 passengers were tested on the PNR, with two positive results.

“All operating train lines have completed 258 passenger tests, with 253 testing negative and 5 testing positive—a cumulative positivity rate of 2%,” according to the DOTr.

This is lower than the 10% positive result on Jan. 13, when 23 of the 228 travelers tested positive for the Covid-19.

Those who tested positive were urged to return home, isolate themselves, and report to their respective Barangay Health Emergency Response Team.

To protect the unprotected from coronavirus illness, the DOTr implemented a “no vaccine, no ride” policy on public transportation in the NCR on Monday.

Earlier this month, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered free random antigen testing of volunteers at NCR railway stations to assist combat the spread of Covid-19 in public transportation in the wake of a spike in coronavirus cases.
