The number of confirmed deaths linked to ‘Odette’ has risen to 90, according to the NDRRMC.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) stated on Wednesday that the number of confirmed deaths as a result of Typhoon Odette’s devastation in December had risen to 90.

Western Visayas has 46 confirmed deaths, Eastern Visayas has 18, Mimaropa has 16, Northern Mindanao has seven, Central Visayas has two, and the Zamboanga Peninsula has one, according to the latest situation report.

Nine more people have died, bringing the total number of verified deaths to 81 as of January 11. A total of 205 people have been hurt, with six people still missing.

Meanwhile, reports of 316 deaths, 1,068 injuries, and 59 missing people are still being verified.

In Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the number of affected families is estimated to be 2,366,309 or 8,409,603 people in 8,980 barangays (BARMM).

Families at 1,124 evacuation facilities are estimated to number 56,875 people, while those aided outside number 32,742 people, with the rest being helped by family and friends.

In Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao area, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the BARMM, 1,395,097 houses were damaged.

1,031,063 were classified as slightly damaged, while 364,034 were rated as completely damaged.

Agriculture damage in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao area, Soccsksargen, and Caraga was estimated at PHP15.9 billion.

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the BARMM was estimated at PHP17.3 billion.

Disaster relief for typhoon victims

Meanwhile, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has delivered 1,213,801 pounds of relief supplies to areas impacted hard by Typhoon Odette in December.

Aside from these life-saving materials, the Philippine Air Force has also transported 667 Filipinos and 16 foreigners who were stranded by the typhoon, according to Air Force spokeswoman Lt. Col. Maynard Maynard Mariano.

He also stated that Philippine Airlines and AirAsia aided PAF in its relief efforts.

Mariano went on to say that the PAF’s heavy equipment is now stationed in Mactan, helping with the ongoing reconstruction work in Cebu City.

Around 30 PAF planes and 28 Navy ships, as well as 769 military trucks, are assisting in the ongoing relief efforts for the victims of “Odette.”
