In Baguio, the Department of Tourism (DOT) participates in the development of a “pharmacy and drive-thru vaccine.”
Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said on Wednesday that the national government’s “Pharmacy and Drive-thru Vaccination Sites” initiative would help the Department of Tourism (DOT) prepare for the country’s eventual reopening by ensuring that tourism workers and tourists are protected against Covid-19.
During the introduction of the program in the country’s summer capital, Puyat was joined by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF) Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar Secretary Vince Dizon, Congressman Mark Go, and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.
“Now that we’re fighting an Omicron surge outside of NCR, we’re trying to get ahead of it by making booster doses as easy as possible for everyone.” There’s no need to wait in a large line at a centralized immunization facility any longer. Simply visit a partnering pharmacy, such as Watsons or Mercury Drugstore, to receive a free booster shot while purchasing your essentials,” Puyat explained.
“In the following weeks, we hope to see this project adopted in other parts of the country,” she continued.
The launch took place at the Baguio City Convention Center, where the Secretaries also led the handover of Covid-19 response logistics to the city government, before moving on to Watson’s Pharmacy in SM Baguio and the Baguio Athletic Bowl’s drive-thru vaccination site, where the vaccine rollout began.
Apart from Baguio City residents, travelers can get their Covid-19 booster doses at Watson’s Pharmacy and Mercury Drugstore, as well as both vaccination and booster shots at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.
Magalong and local officials were also praised by Puyat for their successful efforts to vaccinate the city’s people, particularly tourism workers.
“Congratulations on your dedication to safeguarding our industry’s lifeblood,” she remarked.
So far, the city has immunized all of its tourism workers in hotels and other tourism-related businesses, totaling 10,305 people.
As of January 21, 97 percent of the city’s 281,000 adult residents who were eligible for vaccination had been fully vaccinated.
Visitors are welcome to visit Baguio City, but they must submit a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test or a fast antigen test completed within 72 hours and 24 hours, respectively, before to arrival.
The same requirement applies to travel companions aged 12 to 17, with the option of undergoing testing procedures once in the city.
