The government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) stated on Friday that its obstetric and gynecology (OB-Gyne) department will temporarily halt admitting pregnant women in their second to fourth trimesters for normal delivery.

The decision was made due to the current spike of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the city, according to the ZCMC’s Public Affairs and Customer Care Unit (PACCU).

The ZCMC stated, “We would only accommodate individuals who have problems or are in their first or fifth pregnancy and above.”

As of Thursday, January 27, there are 249 patients admitted to the Covid-19 wards and emergency room (ER), according to the ZCMC. The hospital’s Covid-19 bed capacity is 160.

According to the report, 217 of the 249 are proven positive for Covid-19, while 32 are suspected instances.

Approximately 63 percent of confirmed Covid-19 positive individuals have not yet been immunized. 166 of the confirmed positives are adults, with the remaining 51 being children.

Only approximately 16 percent of confirmed positives have severe symptoms, whereas 67 percent have mild symptoms.

The ZCMC stated, “There are eight patients on high-flow oxygen.”

The ZCMC is the region’s primary hospital for Covid-19 patients.
