The programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to alleviate poverty have a positive impact on people’s lives.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) social protection packages have consistently contributed to efforts to alleviate poverty over the last five years.

Through the Sustainable Livelihood Program’s Microenterprise Development and Employment Facilitation, more than 1.2 million household beneficiaries have ventured into income-generating opportunities and acquired work, according to the DSWD.

More than 9.2 million households have benefited from the Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) nationwide, which includes 31,052 community sub-projects.

Kalahi-CIDSS is a community-driven program that allows residents to actively participate in the planning, design, and implementation of projects that address community concerns.

The DSWD also served more than 3.2 million people this year through the expanded Social Pension program, up from less than a million in 2015.

President Rodrigo Duterte amended the Program’s eligibility requirements from 75 years old and above in 2011 to 2014, and 65 years old and above in 2015, to include indigent senior citizens who have reached the age of 60 in the provision of the monthly PHP500 stipend.

Since 2016, at least 9,205 centenarians have received their PHP100,000 cash gift from the government under the Centenarians Act, according to the most recent data.

From 2016 to the present, the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program has helped over seven million people with educational, transportation, and medical needs.

The DSWD also said on Tuesday night’s Talk to the People that it runs Supplementary Feeding Programs for children aged 2 to 5 in 1,429 local government units, operates 71 centers and residential care facilities that care for more than 80,000 children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities, and distributes relief aid to disaster-stricken areas.

The DSWD said it will keep working to “contribute to achieving President Duterte’s vision of a matatag, maginhawa, at panatag na buhay (stable, comfortable, and peaceful) life for Filipinos.”
