Catfish in the Aquarium: How to Take Care of them
Catfish are one of the most common fish in aquariums of freshwater. Catfish are very different from other fish when it comes to their health and care. Catfish are unique because of their “barbells,” which look like whiskers on a cat. This is why these one-of-a-kind fish are called catfish. Also, catfish don’t have scales like other fish. They also have a strong, hollow ray on their fins that can sting if the fish is hurt or in danger.
There are a lot of armored catfish in fish tanks. A catfish in this group is smaller than other types of catfish. They would be a great addition to a fish tank! In the beginning, when you set up your tank, it is best to decide whether to keep catfish. Your choice will affect the type of gravel or sand you use in the tank and the pH level of the water inside. Armored catfish like soft bottoms because they search for food in the ground. You should make sure there are caves and places to hide for catfish.
Most of the time, you don’t have to do anything different when you care for catfish. Make sure to add food that will fall on the bottom of your tank because these fish are bottom eaters. The water should be at a temperature in the middle the to upper seventies, and the pH should be at the same level. In most cases, this is the same way you’ll keep other fish, so it shouldn’t be a big deal when you add your catfish.
Catfish are known to be a little goofy and funny, but this may depend on the type of catfish you have. They will act in different ways, but as a group, catfish are fun to watch in an aquarium. The catfish in groups and schools get along well. Then there are also people who stay away from their neighbors all the time. Catfishes are great for community tanks because they live in places on the bottom of the tank that other fish can’t get to. Most fish like them. Only if there are some bigger Cichlids in the tank can there be a problem, because the Cichlids tend to claim the whole tank as their own.
It’s important to think about the size of the other fish in your tank before you add a catfish. Even though catfish are usually good friends with most other fish, they are a hunter, and they will attack and eat smaller fish. These fish should be fed in the evening or late in the day. Catfish are also nocturnal and should be fed at night. Depending on what your schedule is now and what kind of fish live in your tank, you may have to change the times you feed them. To add these funny fish to your aquarium, there are a lot of different types of armored catfish. With all fish, keep the aquarium clean and healthy to keep the fish and you happy for years to come.
