Beginning Nov. 28, BI will ban tourists from seven African countries.
Beginning November 28, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) stated that travelers from seven African countries will be temporarily barred from entering the country.
South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique, according to Commissioner Jaime Morente’s recommendation.
He explained that the travel ban is in response to a recent instruction from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to avoid the entrance of the new Covid-19 strain known as Omicron.
According to BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval, the prohibition will be in effect until December 15th.
The IATF has approved the interim suspension of inbound international flights from seven countries with local incidences of the new variety or a high likelihood of occurrence, only weeks before the holiday season.
“Those who have traveled to these countries within the last 14 days will be denied entrance as well,” Morente stated.
The restriction on the Faroe Islands and the Netherlands, according to the BI, is still in effect until December 15.
It is likely that the IATF will determine whether to extend or lift it.
