According to the Department of Scientific and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Pena, the Philippines and Israel will collaborate on a variety of projects as part of their science, technology, and innovation relationship.

De la Pena and Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss met online on January 24 to discuss key areas for international collaboration, according to a filmed report.

“The meeting decided on joint activities in the areas of innovation, agriculture, and health. Recognizing Israel’s strength, the DOST will collaborate with the embassy to connect the important players in both countries’ innovation ecosystems, allowing them to develop connections and share experiences “he stated

Fluss reportedly expressed interest in establishing an incubator/accelerator facility in the Philippines, according to De la Pena.

“The embassy also highlighted its intention to construct smart agriculture centers in Philippine institutions,” according to the DOST director. “These will serve as locations to demonstrate Israeli innovations, conduct training, and perform local research.”

Agriculture capacity-building activities will be explored in the future, according to De la Pena.

“They will be studied in terms of health, medication development, and commercialization, as well as the construction of the Virology and Vaccine Science and Technology Institute,” he stated.

De la Pena previously stated that Israeli authorities discussed scholarships, visiting professors, and training.

He also spoke with Israel’s Ministry of Science and Technology chief scientist, Avi Domb, and other authorities through the internet last year.

They talked about possible cooperative endeavors in key sectors like agriculture (water management), artificial intelligence (robotics), and health (biomedical engineering and drug discovery).
