According to the NTF, pharmaceutical corporations prefer to work with the government.

According to National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the government is open to entering into tripartite deals for the second wave procurement of coronavirus vaccines, but vaccine producers prefer bilateral discussions.

Galvez acknowledged the favorable outcomes of tripartite partnerships with the private sector and local government units (LGUs) in a virtual press conference, but vaccine producers with whom he has worked prefer bilateral talks due to the challenges of exporting tiny volumes of Covid-19 vaccines.

“Ang concentration ng mga manufacturer, mas gusto nilang makipag-deal sa government kasi ‘yung order in bulk’. Nasa 20,000 or 30,000 lang sa tripartite kasi. (At the moment, the manufacturers’ concentration is that they want to work with the government for large purchases of vaccinations.) They are having difficulty managing with only 20,000 or 30,000 dosages, unlike in threefold) “he stated

He encouraged local governments and the business sector to spend more money next year on auxiliary supplies like syringes and cold chain storage equipment.

“Sila na lang ang bumili ng tinatawag na syringes at national government na lang ang bahala sa (They can buy syringes or cold chain storage, and the national government will handle vaccine procurement,” he said.

Most LGUs, according to Galvez, believe the national government is capable of obtaining bigger quantities of Covid-19 vaccinations.
