Infections of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Quezon City continue to decline, with a positive rate of 17% this week, down from 25% last week.

The positivity rate refers to the percentage of people who are infected after being tested.

The city’s reproduction number, or the severity of virus infection, has also decreased to 0.42 from 0.81 in the last week of January, according to data from the city’s Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU).

Despite the decrease in the number of infections, the municipal government advised citizens in a Facebook post on Thursday to continue following the required minimum health and safety procedures.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, the city had 4,199 current Covid-19 cases or 1.64 percent of all instances.

With a total of 250,250 people recovering from the ailment, it has a 97.71 percent recovery rate.

Covid-19 is responsible for 1,653 deaths, or 0.65% of all deaths.

Overall, the number of infections in the country is decreasing, with less than 10,000 cases reported this week.

The Department of Health recorded 8,702 new infections on Thursday.

Despite the city’s Covid-19 instances declining, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte asked residents to avoid the three Cs or confined, crowded, and close contact situations, to prevent the virus from spreading. This is in addition to the use of face masks and frequent hand washing.

She also asked people to receive their life-saving vaccinations, or booster shots, as soon as possible.
