Election preparations will not be hampered by the retirement of three executives, according to the Comelec.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday that the retirement of three top employees will not affect its preparations for the May elections.

These preparations, according to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, have been in place for a long time and have already been addressed in recent months.

“Keep in mind that when you’re running elections, you’re talking about putting plans in place that were put in place when there were six of them.” We are now in the process of putting these procedures into action. From the policy level to the operational level, a lot has changed. “We’re doing that right now,” he declared in a virtual press conference.

Jimenez also expressed confidence in the ability of the remaining officials, including acting chair Socorro Inting and Commissioners Marlon Casquejo, Aimee Ferolino, and Rey Bulay, to meet problems.

“A quorum is required at all times.” Because they’ll have a quorum to get things done if a matter is elevated to them. That is the problem. “However, getting things started is not an issue,” he added.

According to Jimenez, the polling organization will not file an appeal for the quick appointment of new commissioners.

“We trust that the leadership is aware of the deadlines we’re working with, as well as the demands that will be placed on the new appointments when they arrive.” “We’ll leave it up to the appointing authority’s choice,” he continued.

“We never do,” the Comelec spokeswoman responded when asked if they were able to obtain information about possible appointments. Individual commissioners may receive such information, but nothing actionable or formal.”

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has a shortlist of probable appointees to replace the three retired officials: Chairperson Sheriff Abas and Commissioners Rowena Guanzon and Antonio Kho Jr., according to Malacanang on Monday.

Duterte realizes the necessity of naming successors to Abas, Guanzon, and Kho “as soon as possible,” according to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, who is also the acting presidential spokesperson.

Resignation with courtesy

Meanwhile, Jimenez announced that he is resigning as the poll body’s spokeswoman to offer Inting the opportunity to appoint anybody she wishes to the role.

“I submit my resignation as spokesperson every time there is a change in leadership, whether it’s actual chairmanship or acting chairmanship,” he stated.

Jimenez, on the other hand, stated that if he is chosen again, he will accept the position.
