Sellers of fraudulent injectable Covid-19 medications should be prosecuted, according to PRRD.

People selling counterfeit medicines online, particularly injectable treatments for treating Covid-19, should be prosecuted, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.

“It’s critical that the source of the fake or counterfeited drug para (be) pinpointed or known, kasi (because) we have to warn the citizens about these fake or counterfeited drugs at saka itong mga tao (and these) are prosecuted at magkaroon ng kaso kasi kung nasa labas ang mga taong ito (and face charges because if they remain free

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a new warning to the public about bogus injectable Covid-19 vaccinations and treatments.

A bogus Tocilizumab injection for Covid-19 treatment is being offered for roughly PHP25,000 each vial, according to FDA officer-in-charge Oscar Gutierrez.

Gutierrez said the commercial price range for Covid-19 was roughly PHP70,000 to PHP90,000 per vial at the height of the epidemic last year, but it was not FDA-approved.

Gutierrez asked people to only acquire drugs from pharmacies and drug stores that are FDA-approved.

“If at all possible, buy from the same places you trust every time,” Gutierrez advised, noting that counterfeit drugs often have poor packaging, spelling errors, and grammatical errors.

The manufacturing date and expiration date on the outer package of counterfeit drugs do not match the information on the inner box, according to him.

Any medicine, according to Gutierrez, should only be obtained from FDA-approved pharmacies.

Duterte went on to say that someone from the FDA should be in charge of keeping track of the criminal proceedings filed against these counterfeiters.

Meanwhile, Gutierrez pointed out that the FDA has a regulatory enforcement team that investigates instances in collaboration with government security officials to ensure that violators are punished or imprisoned.

“Ang trabaho ninyo (Your job) does not finish with the arrest; it does not even end with the statement that you have gathered all the bogus narcotics,” Duterte stated. “I have yet to witness anybody who is involved in this type of activity being convinced.”

According to Gutierrez, 85 people have been detained for distributing counterfeit medications in the last two years.
