In the midst of the pandemic, a top official of the Commission on Elections in Soccsksargen (Comelec-12) has promised to cooperate closely with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure the success of the 2022 National and Local Elections.

With the possibility of the coronavirus in 2019, Comelec-12 director Renato Magbutay said his office, together with the PNP, will face additional obstacles in the upcoming election (Covid-19).

“This will be our first pandemic election,” Magbutay said during a live radio broadcast of his speech at the Police Regional Office (PRO) -12 in General Santos City. “As a result, we will not only be combating visible threats to security, but also the invisible threat to health from the highly contagious and deadly Covid-19.”

Magbutay was the honored guest and speaker during the PRO-12’s flag-raising ceremony and 31st PNP Foundation Day Celebration on Monday.

Magbutay, on the other hand, expressed confidence that the problems will be addressed because the Comelec and law enforcement units will continue to work together to ensure the safety of the electorate and the sanctity of the ballots.

“In the face of these challenges, we, the Comelec, the Philippine National Police, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines can promise you that we, the Comelec, the Philippine National Police, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, will stay devoted to our duty this election,” he said.

He also emphasized that no election will ever be effective unless the Comelec and law enforcement authorities work together.
