If the number of instances continues to diminish, Alert Level 1 in the NCR may be necessary: Palace
If the Covid-19 instances continue to fall in the coming days, Malacanang stated on Wednesday that the National Capital Region (NCR) might be placed under the most lenient Alert Level 1.
Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, said in a radio interview on Thursday that key officials from the government’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) will conduct a preliminary assessment of Metro Manila’s Covid-19 situation.
It will be followed by a conference on either February 12 or 13 to discuss the most recent Covid-19 data and numbers in various regions, including the National Capital Region.
“What we want to do in IATF is do an assessment closer to February 16 so that we can see the latest numbers and make a final decision for the alert level system for February 16 through the end of the month,” Nograles said.
Meanwhile, Romando Artes, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) officer-in-charge and general manager, previously stated that the mayors of the NCR are ready to relax restrictions within their respective local government units (LGUs), but that they are still awaiting the IATF’s final guidelines.
“Ine-expect natin na baka mag-Alert Level 1 po tayo, baka ine-expect natin na baka ine-expect natin na baka ine-expe Ang mga alkalde naman ay handa sa pagbubukas ng iba’t-ibang industriya at sector sa kalakhang Maynila. (We intend to deescalate to Alert Level 1 in the near future.) In a television interview on Tuesday, he remarked, “Our mayors are ready for the opening of various companies and sectors in Metro Manila).”
Artes stated that if the Covid-19 cases continue to decline, the Metro Manila Council will recommend that the NCR be placed on Alert Level 1, as discussed by its members.
Metro Manila, which includes Batanes, Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal in Luzon, Biliran and Southern Leyte in the Visayas, and Basilan in Mindanao, is on Alert Level 2 until February 15.
