Accessibility issues and a lack of staff stymie vaccine efforts, according to a health executive

The government is investigating and addressing the reasons why some areas are falling behind in their coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) immunization campaigns.

The difficulties of persons in distant locations to travel to vaccination sites could be one of the reasons, according to National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) chair, Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje, during a Laging Handa public briefing on Friday.

“Iyong health center, iyong mga bakuna center ang ilapit doon sa mga mamamayan, tingnan nila. Tapos, may iba’t iba pang mga rason, at iyon ang bibigyan nila ng pansin at kanilang tutugunan. Other factors could be at play. They should investigate these) “Cabotaje explained.

In certain regions, she added, diseased health-care personnel or suspected virus carriers impeded vaccination.

The major purpose of the national immunization effort “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” on February 10 and 11 was to equip areas with low inoculation rates and to cater to more senior residents.

The national program will now run through February 18th.

“To that end, bigyan natin ng mas maraming panahon iyong ating mga publiko, iyong ating mga mamamayan para mag-avail ng kanilang first dosage, kanilang second dose, at saka iyong kanilang booster para kumpleto ang ating proteksyon. ([This is] to give extra time to the public, especially those who will receive their first dose, second dose, and booster shot for total protection.) As previously stated, we are all protected if everyone is vaccinated) “Cabotaje explained.

Nearly a year after the first shipment of 600,000 Sinovac vaccine doses, given by China, was delivered on Feb. 28, 2021, the Philippines has received 222,449,820 Covid-19 vaccine doses.

In total, 60,689,878 Filipinos have been properly vaccinated across the country.
